Photography has been a part of my life for so many years, I am not sure what I would be without it. My interest in photography was sparked while attending Memorial University in St.John’s NL when I joined the student newspaper. So I said goodbye to my Political Science career and enrolled in the photography program at Holland College in Charlottetown PEI. That is where I met my future wife and business partner.
College was a great place to learn the particulars of photography which is very important and the social interaction with like minded people, I learned more from the hands on experience I received from assisting other professional commercial photographers. We moved to St. John’s Newfoundland to operate our own commercial photography business where we worked with local advertising agencies, as well as provincial and federal government agencies.
Having both grown up on the East Coast we decided it was time to see more of what this beautiful country had to offer so we packed up our belongings and headed west where we settled in Grande Prairie AB. I have been a working photographer in Grande Prairie for the past 17 years, working for companies both locally, provincially and nationwide.
These past 29 years have been a wild ride, I am looking forward to what is to come.
Digital Photography Post-Processor & Retoucher
I have always wanted to be a photographer for as long as I can remember. I always had my camera with me and was forever taking photos, I would spend my allowance money on getting film processed.
I enrolled in an evening course at the local college with my older sister, it was where I started shooting slide film and was struck by the vibrant colors. So I put together a portfolio of images and applied to a few colleges across the country but decided to stick closer to home and moved from Bathurst NB to Charlottetown PEI to attend the photography program at Holland College.
I always thought I would be a wildlife or landscape photographer but college opened my eyes to other possibilities. At college I learned a lot of practical and hands on experience, I was introduced to the art of hand coloring and photo restoration which became a passion of mine.
I think that is what has to lead me to my love of photo editing and digital art. Technology is always changing so every day there is something new and exciting to learn.
